"Okay, well, bye."

"Mom, why were you talking in that voice?"
"What voice?"
"That voice like you are just meeting someone, but you weren't just meeting someone, you were talking to Christina." (Christina is the maid/nanny).
That, dear S, is also my I-am-so-sorry-you're-deathly-ill-but-how-in-the-world-am-I-going-to-survive-today-without-you voice. Very versatile, that voice.

Selfishness exposed by the five year old in the back seat. I didn't realize I was that obvious.

Don't you love it when your kids point out things like that. Makes you wonder what everybody else notices but doesn't have the guts to say.

P.S. I know the feeling behind that voice. I hope you survive the day!

We used to make fun of my mom for her "phone voice," too. But now I find myself using "phone voice." Good luck surviving!

if i had realized to what extent having kids meant a verbal magnification of my faults and idiosyncrasies, i may have kept the factory closed. humble pie is a nasty dish. so... maids. it's a love-hate relationship, non?

Oh well, it will be minor when word gets back to you on what they revealed about their family while answering questions in primary class.
